Caffeinated Randomness - Comfort Zone

Snapshot_20090529 Please don't laugh when I tell you this, but I'm having lunch alone at Starbucks today.  Alone!  I never, ever, EVER have gone to a restaurant alone.  I always thought I would be completely self-conscious to eat alone, thinking everyone else who came to eat in pairs would be looking at me.

I guess that's a little egotistical, huh?

I've been wanting to come here ever since I got my laptop, and that was over a year ago.  Whoa, I guess it's about time.  The reason it worked out today is because I'm waiting to meet a friend who had a lunch appointment and is meeting me afterwards.  I didn't want to drive home just to eat lunch and meet up later, so I thought, Hey!  This is a great day to go grab a sandwich at Starbucks and write away at your blog, girl.

And so I agreed to the little voice in my head.

So as I sit here at my table, typing away at my laptop, I am okay.  Very much okay.  Nobody is staring.  {Not that I've noticed, but I've been pretty much looking at my sandwich, iced tea, and computer screen.}

Finally, another bridge crossed.  A victory in getting out of that old comfort zone.  I think I'll be doing this again.Randomness Friday

  1. :) I have felt the same way! Finally last year I wanted Chick-fil-a and decided to go in and eat....it was an interesting experience...a little uncomfortable but in the end enjoyable :)

    Glad you too the plunge!

    Have a fabulous weekend!

  2. I'm glad you did it...it's actually one of my favorite things to do (though not at Starbucks)! I don't tend to do it on "my" side of town, though; I guess I don't want to get caught. But it's something I do at lunch (I work in a different part of town) or when I'm out of town for work, and greatly enjoy it. I just love reading and eating, and getting to do them both together (while getting to people watch, too!) is great.

  3. Good for you! I still feel uncomfortable eating alone - but that's where a good book (or the laptop!) come in handy!

  4. @crittyjoy, @Ronnica, @Andrea: Now I don't feel so badly. I thought it was just me that didn't like to go in alone. I'm not so quirky after all. =) I'll be different one of these days.

  5. Starbucks is the best place to have lunch alone!! Plus, you're never alone with your laptop there.

  6. I know what you mean, I am always TOO self conscious to eat at places alone. I, too, always think everyone's staring. I'm glad you overcame and it was enjoyable. Have a great weekend!!

  8. Way to go, brave Liz! I love to eat alone. I guess it is just the introvert in me! (Plus there are often single fellas eating alone that I am tempted to start conversations with but never get up the nerve to do!)
