Link Love

I came across this post today at 5 Minutes For Books, and I love what she had to say about giving your child a love for books. I think she may be onto something.

Totally Caffeinated Randomness

Caffeinated Randomness I can't remember the last time I had this little badge on my blog.  Can you?

In true randomness fashion I give you a list of...Things that make me happy right now:

  • It's summer!!!
  • Dixie (my Sheltie)
  • My husband, the grillin' man (He just got a new gas grill.)
  • Being able to visit grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins last week
  • Sitting on my front porch reading
  • My Word of Life quiet time journal
  • God is at work in my life
  • Having a new ministry this fall

It's not exhaustive, but it's a pretty good sum of my happy thoughts these days.

Okay, you know the drill.  Drop by at Andrea's blog, Under Grace & Over Coffee, and see what randomness ensues there today.

The Discipline of Reading

I am crazy about books and have a shelf-full waiting for me right now, but at the same time I am undisciplined about reading them. That's something I don't understand about myself, and that's probably one of the many reasons why I am self-described as complex.

I love to smell books, feel their smooth covers, and will judge them by their covers nine times out of ten. So when I joined Goodreads.com a few months ago and then found PaperBackSwap.com shortly after that, I think I was doomed from the get-go.

My list of books under the to-read header is now up to 44. How will I ever manage? That number is split between novels and biblical non-fiction, both genres of which I try be reading at all times. If this keeps up, I will just have to turn off the TV and read during every spare moment I get, especially because I keep finding more interesting books and adding them to my list. Not that turning off the TV would even be a bad thing. (Do I really need to watch one more episode of House Hunters to see which house the clients choose? It only makes me want to buy a new house anyways.)

That's where the undisciplined part comes in. I know that there are lots of times I could be reading, but I've either got the blahs, want to watch HGTV, feel lazy, or just don't have the zip to open the book. The silly part is that I know once I just begin reading, I'll get into it. So I guess it really comes down to making a conscious choice to DO IT.

Are you a voracious reader? Do you find it comes natural, or do you have to discipline yourself?

Shoe Shopping Woes

Does anyone else have a hard time shopping for shoes?  I was in the store the other day and thought I'd buy a pair of flip-flops.  (I'm new to the whole flip-flop thing because I didn't think that little thong between my toes would be comfortable.)  So I was browsing through the shoe department and came across a pair of wedge sandals on clearance.  And they were cu-UTE, too.

I put them on and walked around a little in the aisle and decided to grab them up at that price.  And because...did I mention...they were CUTE?

So I was very psyched about wearing my new wedge sandals to the office today.  They felt a little stiff at first when I slipped them on this morning.  No matter.  They will stretch and loosen up as I break them in today.

I went and filled my coffee cup, gathered my purse and keys, then headed out the door.  Ouch!  Walking in these cute sandals is really hurting my feet.  Hmmm... By the time I reached the garage and put my things into my van, I knew there was just no fighting it.  The pain of walking in those cute stinkin' sandals was never gonna be worth the sacrifice for wearing cool shoes.

I walked back to the house, hanging my head in disappointment over the loss of those sandals.  I just have to ask, How does a girl buy a decent pair of shoes if she can't get a feel for them in the store?

Things I Miss

There are several things I miss about camp.  One of them is fishing.  I caught a few fish while I was there.  You probably didn't take me for a fisherwoman, did ya?

Another thing I miss are the sunsets on the lake.  Just water, trees and sky.
