Weekend Stuff

Would you believe my car has already been repaired?  It was finished within a couple hours of dropping it off at the mechanic.  Turns out it needed a fuse replaced, and it was a pretty simple procedure and not too expensive.  We still need the suspension repaired, but we don't need it fixed right away.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day.  We're having a luncheon at church, and it's going to be the biggest turnout we've ever had.  Over 100 ladies and their girls have signed up to attend.  The theme is based on sewing and patterns, so they're decorating with dress forms, an old sewing machine, scrap fabric, and various sewing notions.  I was in charge of making the welcome sign.  I glued some calico fabric to a poster board and then printed out the words for the sign off of the computer, along with a couple clip art photos. 

We're supposed to take a salad to the luncheon, and I was really glad that yesterday when I started thumbing through my cookbook I happened across a recipe I've made before.  It's a healthy version of creamy coleslaw.  I decided that I might try adding a little horseradish to give it a zing, just for fun.  I've already mixed it up and think it tastes pretty good.  I know once it's chilled awhile those flavors are going to mingle and intensify.  I can't wait to see what the horseradish does to the taste.

I've got First Place Bible study first thing in the morning, the luncheon at 11:30, and then I'm going to a friend's open house for her college graduation.  I know the weekend is going to fly.  I'll be sitting at my desk on Monday morning, wondering what happened to the weekend.

Here We Go Again

There's this thing that happens most every year, usually about this time of year. It's a strange thing - a phenomenon, you might say. What happens is that we have a major appliance, electronic device, or vehicle break down on us. One of those "can't hardly live without it" sort of things.

So guess what happened yesterday. Our dryer broke down. The other day Rich realized that the timer was not working when the load he had thrown in the previous night was STILL RUNNING at 4:30 AM. Everything was dry, of course, but I'm concerned about the fire hazard that it might have been. Then yesterday he went down to check on a load, and everything was still wet. So now it's not heating at all. It's about 10 years old and has never needed a repair, but now it does. Yep. Right now. In December. At Christmas.

Just like clockwork...

Now typically what would happen is we'd discover that the "thing" of the moment is unfixable, and we'd have to limp along without it until about February when we receive our tax refund, and then replace it. I automatically jumped to this conclusion with the dryer because we've got a pretty tight budget. But this year is different, thank the Lord. We have enough money in our emergency savings to call the repairman, and we should be able to get it repaired or even replaced.

I'm thankful that it wasn't too hard to get our laundry dried today. My parents live about 3 minutes away, and we can drop off our stuff and go back later to pick it up. That's about as convenient as it gets when you're in a pinch.

The repairman comes out tomorrow afternoon. I'll let you know how it turns out.
